Naakah

The Aurora Borealis are active in northeast British Columbia almost year round. From early August right through until early May, we are often blessed with fantastic overhead auroral displays that rival almost anywhere else in the world. Auroras are caused by particles of gas that are launched into our atmosphere from a solar eruption on the Sun. Once in contact with oxygen, those particles ignite in colour, and become visible to the naked eye.

"Naa'kah" is the dene word for the northern lights. Dene people have long believed that the northern lights are the spirits of our ancestors, dancing and watching over us.
